The roots of Leander Nelson Vandereecken lie in a small West Flemish village, but you would think he was raised on the banks of the Mississippi. He has a soul deeply rooted in roots music. As a five-year-old, he first came into contact with folk and Bluegrass music. Soon after, he inherited his grandmother's mandolin, beginning his journey of discovery in blues and roots music. At the age of 17 Leander started playing in his first band "6 Days Of Justice" a metalcore band from Kortrijk. Later on at the age of 19, Leander moved to Ghent and started the successful and beloved Americana band "A Murder In Mississippi" together with his sister Mirthe. Leander is also known as the host and driving force behind "Folk & Americana Jam" at the Missy Sippy club in Ghent. Leander breathes music and now plays the guitar, banjo and mandolin. He is constantly creating new songs and melodies. As a songwriter, singer, and guitarist, he is involved in various musical projects. Leander is also a part of "The Missy Sippy All-stars” formed by; friend and mentor “Tiny Legs Tim.

In 2021 Leander founded “The Muddy Sippy Boys”, together with Karel Algoed en Olivier Vander Bauwede. The Muddy Sippy Boys are a collective of friends based around the Missy Sippy blues and roots club. In the summer of 2023, Leander recorded his first duo record together with blues harp virtuoso “Olivier Vander Bauwede”. In 2024 they released “Live From Room 13”.
